The web is for everyone. Making it accessible should be, too.
That’s a belief we’ve carried into building AccessMate, and it’s also why we’re proud to support WP Accessibility Day 2026 as a Bronze Sponsor.

Taking place on October 7–8, WP Accessibility Day is a free, 24-hour virtual event dedicated to accessibility in WordPress and the wider web. It brings together people from across the accessibility and WordPress communities for a full day of talks, ideas, experiences, and practical guidance.
If accessibility is part of your work — or something you’ve been meaning to learn more about — this is a great opportunity to spend some time with the community.
Why accessibility matters
Accessibility isn’t a niche consideration. It affects a significant part of the world’s population.
According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 1.3 billion people — around 16% of the global population — experience a significant disability today.
And accessibility has implications far beyond compliance.
Research has found that 71% of users with disabilities will leave a website if it is difficult to use, making accessibility an important part of creating a better experience and reaching more people.
There is also a substantial economic opportunity. The global disability market is estimated to represent around $13 trillion in disposable income, highlighting the scale of the audience businesses can overlook when digital experiences aren’t accessible.
And here’s the interesting part: accessible design tends to benefit everyone.
Clear navigation, readable content, good colour contrast, captions, keyboard-friendly interfaces, descriptive labels, and well-structured pages can make websites easier to use for people with and without disabilities.
It’s the digital equivalent of the curb-cut effect: a feature created to improve accessibility for one group can end up making life easier for many others.
Accessibility can also support discoverability. Many accessibility practices — such as meaningful page structure, descriptive text, clear headings, and properly structured content — overlap with good SEO and technical best practices. While accessibility itself should not be treated as a simple Google ranking factor, building a website that is accessible can contribute to a better overall user and technical experience.
A free event for everyone

One of the things we love about WP Accessibility Day is its commitment to making accessibility education available to everyone. There’s no ticket to buy and no conference room to travel to. You can register for free and join sessions online from anywhere in the world.
With speakers covering different aspects of accessibility, there’s plenty to explore whether you’re a developer, designer, content creator, agency owner, site owner, or simply someone interested in building a more inclusive web. The detailed schedule of 24 sessions is now available.
Why we’re supporting the event
Accessibility isn’t just a checklist of technical requirements. It’s about making sure people with different abilities can access, navigate, understand, and interact with the web. That requires awareness, education, better tools, and a willingness to keep learning.
As a WordPress company, we believe we have a role to play in that ecosystem.
With AccessMate, our goal is to make accessibility testing and improvement more approachable for WordPress users — without adding another barrier to getting started.
What’s AccessMate?
AccessMate is a free WordPress accessibility plugin to make accessibility testing easier for developers, agencies, and website owners. From the WordPress dashboard, you can scan pages, view accessibility scores and issues by severity, and quickly identify where to focus your efforts. With AI enabled, AccessMate can also provide suggested code fixes that you can review and copy into your editor.
AccessMate supports WCAG 2.0, WCAG 2.1, WCAG 2.2, and Section 508. And because accessibility is an ongoing process, you can re-scan after redesigns, plugin updates, or content changes to catch potential regressions.
We believe the ability to start improving website accessibility shouldn’t depend on whether someone has a large accessibility budget. Whether you’re running a personal website, a small business site, a nonprofit website, or managing websites for clients, you can use AccessMate as part of your accessibility workflow.
Of course, automated testing is only one part of the bigger picture. Accessibility requires human understanding, thoughtful design and development, appropriate content practices, and testing with real users and assistive technologies. That’s why we also offer manual accessibility services to help businesses identify accessibility barriers through a comprehensive, human-led review.
Let’s make accessibility part of the conversation
We’re excited to support WP Accessibility Day because it creates a space for exactly that — learning, sharing experiences, asking questions, and bringing accessibility further into everyday WordPress conversations.
